As we continue to highlight Art from Deaf artist Eboni Love-Peel we hope you will save the date and attend Deaf Celebration in Southfield, MI and support the many entrepreneurs and organizations that will be in attendance. This event happens every 2 years and is a magnificent event.
Next month we will highlight the BIO of Eboni (Eragon) Love-Peel. Closer to the event her new pieces will be on the Just Jameen website. Her previous pieces that are on the Silent Art tab are only sold in posters and cards and the new pieces will be produced as posters and cards for ordering as well. The original pieces are on canvas, wood and other mediums and are limited many, only the one piece is for sale. The Body Butter sold by Just Jameen will also be for sale and order that day at show discounts!
As we weather the storms, both physically and politically. We ask that you stay safe in this heat. If you
are in a state with elections this year, please research and vote in your best interest. Just Jameen is a
Detroit Company, and I implore Detroiters to study and read and decide for yourself who will be the
best Mayor to keep moving Detroit forward.
Several historically Black towns across the United States no longer exist due to a combination of factors
including racial violence, economic hardship, and urban renewal projects. Some were destroyed by
white mobs, others were submerged by reservoirs, and some were displaced by highways and other
development projects. There is so much to this subject we encourage you to download the newsletter
and click these links to learn more. However, as a Detroiter I am highlighting the “D” now
The History of Detroit’s Black Bottom
The name Black Bottom came from the area’s rich, dark soil farmed by French settlers in the eighteenth century,
not the African American population that settled there during the Great Migration. Its boundaries, whose maps
are included in the archive, are considered by many to be Gratiot Avenue and East Vernor Highway to the north;
the Grand Trunk Railroad or Chene to the east; Congress or Lafayette to the south; and Brush Street to the west.
In 1910, only about 5,700 Black Americans lived in Detroit. Two decades later, that population had skyrocketed to
120,000. Many Black residents in that period lived in Black Bottom, east of downtown Detroit, alongside
European immigrants whose families had arrived in the nineteenth century. By 1942, within Black Bottom and
Paradise Valley, the Black commercial district located immediately north, more than 300 Black-owned
businesses—bars and restaurants, doctor’s offices, barber shops, hair salons, hotels, and drug stores—were in
operation.
Coleman A. Young was around five years old when he moved to Black Bottom in 1923 with his father from rural
Jim Crow-era Tuscaloosa, Alabama. His father, William Coleman Young, operated a dry cleaning and tailoring
business and worked as a clerk for the U.S. Postal Service. The son, who would become Detroit’s first Black
mayor in 1974, recalled the success of Black Bottom residents during the 1920s and early 1930s Prohibition era.

Just Jameen Products newest scent "Enchanted Wishes" is described as a playful fragrance oil beginning with notes of pomegranate, blood orange, and pink pomelo. Next, at the center of this whimsical scent, you will find enchanting notes of nectarine, white grapefruit, and lemon zest. Finally, your fragrance fun journey closes with notes of white vetiver, a warm wood accord, and gentle musk.
Just Jameen Products customized scent “Fresh Linen” is described as a clean, fresh air accord billows over line dried cotton, cyclamen, soft woods and musk and a fresh blend of orange flower, jasmine, and lily on a bed of soft woods and musk.
These scents would be wonderful in a candle, but also try them in our creamy shea, frappe, or body butter. Try them in our bath gel and soap as well.
